Herbal Remedies for Back Pain
![]() |
Herbs care be used these days for almost any disorder. There are even herbal remedies for back pain, which is a common problem for many adults. When combined with traditional therapies, herbs can help reduce painful symptoms caused by back pain. It is important to be safe when using herbs or other alternative remedies. Even though many herbs are safe, you should still check with your doctor to avoid potentially serious side effects or interactions. Let's take a look at a few herbs which may have a positive effect for those suffering from back pain.
A herbal remedy that is sometimes used for back problems is Devil's claw. Devil's claw is native to Africa and is used for a variety of ailments. It is thought that the anti-inflammatory properties of this herb are what makes it so effective for back problems. Most people who use devil's claw for their back problems use it in capsule or pill form. However it can also be administered as a tincture or tea. Other uses for this herb include the reduction of arthritis symptoms and even heartburn. There are few side effects of this herb and most people find it quite tolerable.
White willow bark is another herb remedy which is used for back pain. It contains a compound which is similar to that found in aspirin. The white willow is a tree found in Asia and Europe. The bark itself isn't white, but the leaves are. Since ancient times this bark has been used as an anti-inflammatory treatment. Like devil's claw, its properties may prove effective for the reduction of back pain symptoms. Because it is similar to aspirin, the same caution should be used when using white willow bark.
Herbal remedies for back pain can also be applied topically as a plaster, soak or rub. Cayenne, peppermint and eucalyptus are examples of pungent herbs which may impart relief for sore muscles and discomfort in the back area. While they aren't going to be magic cures for serious back problems, they may in fact be just the thing to alleviate mild discomfort. Before using herbal remedies for back pain, talk to your doctor or an herbal specialist. Be sure to tell them if you are taking any medications to avoid possibly dangerous interactions.
